Admiral Ackbar doesn't come into the picture until Return of the Jedi, but is still an important part of the Rebel Alliance. He leads the most valuble asset for the Alliance, the fleet. Ackbar is a symbol to everyone; a symbol that the Alliance is fighting for everyone, not just humans. The Empire has made it a policy to discriminate the non-human. Ackbar is defenitely a symbol that stands for the freedom of tieriny and depression.
